About Benny
Hi. My name is Benny Scheckner. I’m a writer, producer, and performer. In the year 1987, I was banned from the Bellagio casino in Las Vegas for eating “upwards of six thousand dollars in poker chips.” On June 12th, 1994, I had a lovely breakfast with my close friend OJ Simpson at a neighborhood spot. That night, he committed a horrific act of murder. Should I have let him get the check? I was not implicated or even invited to the proceeding trial and I never spoke to Juice after that fateful day. In 1997, I attended John Denver’s funeral. I wasn’t welcome, but I attended and I had a wonderful time. These are just a few of my many illustrious stories.
Obviously, my storied career has been the subject of much public attention. It is remarkable that achievements like the staged reading I produced of the screenplay for The Interview as a free speech protest following Sony’s decision to pull the film from theaters due to alleged North Korean threats, which was featured in publications such as The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Hollywood Reporter, and many others, represents merely a footnote in my sprawling output. The years I spent co-hosting, producing, and writing the No Feelings Presents live variety show, which featured the likes of comedians Wyatt Cenac, Dave Hill, and Brooks Wheelan, as well as a myriad of incredible variety acts including a sword swallower, multiple magicians, a fire breather, an Indian dance troupe, and countless others, are meaningless in the grand scheme of this incredible, supremely decorated body of work. The fact that the variety show was held in such unique locations at Central Park’s Wollman Rink and the legendary Friars Club are insignificant as part of what has been, and continues to be, an unprecedented career in show business. The award-winning short film that I co-wrote, I Am Gringo, is perhaps weird and fucking dumb when one looks at the greater swath of achievements that I have accrued outside of these ones that I’m mentioning. Frankly, what I value most are the friendships I’ve made along the way. The relationships I’ve built. The attention I’ve stolen from lesser celebrities. The juries I’ve tricked. The weeks I’ve spent detained at various embassies— that’s what I value the most, when I look back.
I conclude this message by shouting out the most important people in my life- my loyal fans. I love you guys, I couldn’t have done it without you. #schecknuts for life.
